- Makeup has been used since the Egyptian times, where they had skin creams made out of beeswax, Olive oil and rosewater.
- They also used soot to darken the eyes, herbs and fruits were used to colour the face.
In modern days make up has been used by mainly women but many males are now using them, mostly concealer.
- Flapper style influenced the cosmetics of the 1920's where they had dark eyes, red lipstick, red nail polish and also the suntan. The eyebrow pencil was also a popular cosmetic in the 1920's.
- In the 1960's and 70's women in the western world decided to go without any cosmetics. Cosmetics in the 1970's were split in to a 'natural look' for day and then a more sexualised image for the evening.
- Roll on deodorant was made in 1952 and aerosol-deodorant in 1965.
- In the 20th century, makeup has become very fashionable in the US and also Europe, where they were mostly used by makeup artists for the ballet and Hollywood films.
